A company spokesperson told ILN that the worker, whose name had not been released, was “fine” and was released from a local medical facility Saturday.
The incident occurred at about 7am Friday morning. The miner positioned his body between a continuous miner cable handling device and a rib of coal and then pulled the continuous miner cable handing device against his body.
He was responsive to medical staff at the scene and evacuated by helicopter for treatment.
Century officials said the miner did not have any broken bones and the Century mine had remained operational throughout.
The Century longwall mine, located in Belmont County near Beallsville, began operations in 2002. According to company data, it employs about 450 individuals and produces approximately 6.8 million tons annually.
