Earlier this month Eskom revealed that heavy rainfall had dampened coal supplies, affecting its ability to generate enough power.

The power supplier introduced a short spell of load shedding last week to try and meet energy demands.

In February, Eskom announced an energy emergency and urged commercial customers to cut back on energy consumption.

Operations at power stations across South Africa are expected to return to normal this week.
