The bill, issued on Tuesday, sought greater control over its “destiny as a state”
Representatives Jack Cera and Andy Thompson said House Bill 506 would give the director of Ohio’s EPA more control over the implementation of the upcoming federal EPA rules to lower emissions from coal-fired power plants.
“The vast majority of Ohio’s energy consumption comes from coal and natural-gas fired power plants,” Cera testified to the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee.
“Ohio is going to need some flexibility while developing new standards.”
The US EPA standards, which are viewed as the centrepiece of President Barack Obama’s climate plan, will be announced on June 2.
