Blast kills 17 miners in China

According to Xinhua news agency, crews used nitrogen to help inertise the underground atmosphere following the Saturday evening blast at Dahuangshan Yuxin Coal Mining’s No. 1 underground coal mine.

While they managed to rescue three men within hours, the 17 other missing workers were reportedly confirmed dead on Monday afternoon after nearly two days of rescue operations.

The cause of the explosion is being investigated.
