Located at Columboola, near the CSG booming town of Chinchilla, the mini-LNG plant is targeting domestic customers who are switching to LNG for their heating, generating, manufacturing and transport fuel needs.
BOC says the gas has up to 25% lower carbon emissions, can reduce engine noise by up to 50% and is cheaper at the bowser compared to diesel.
“LNG is currently the only viable alternative to increasingly imported diesel for long haul transport and a range of other heavy-duty fuel tasks,” the gas retailer said.
“It is not only a cleaner fuel; it can diversify fuel sources and also reduce Australia’s growing dependence on imported fuels as local refineries close.
“The $200 million-plus micro LNG infrastructure investment by BOC provides an important investment in local fuel security and a demonstrated domestic opportunity for Queensland’s future – utilising Queensland’s natural gas advantage and Australian design, technical and constructions skills.”
