India won’t need Australian coal after 2020, analyst says

New analysis says India can achieve 7% annual growth through to the early 2020s without significant imports of thermal coal, according to the Australian Financial Review.

The report by Tim Buckley, director of Australasian energy finance at the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis, says the Modi government's bold renewable energy and coal production goals could mean there would be no need for thermal coal imports beyond 2021.

Mackay Conservation Group receives $50,000 from Palaszczuk government

The Queensland government extended the funding for the Mackay Conservation Group, after it launched a legal bid to block approval for Adani's $16.5 billion Carmichael mine, according to the Australian Financial Review.

A spokesperson for the Department of Environment confirmed the group received another $50,000 grant in the July budget, five months after undertaking legal action against Adani in the Federal Court.

ASIC fines Gina Rinehart companies

Three companies controlled by mining billionaire Gina Rinehart have been fined by Australia's corporate regulator for failing to meet transparency rules, according to the Australian Financial Review.

Rinehart's primary corporate vehicle, Hancock Prospecting, was among the companies fined a total of $130,000 for failing to publish financial accounts on time between 2008 and 2012.
