Kalgoorlie Super Pit worker injured

A contractor was injured on Friday at Kalgoorlie’s Super Pit when a telehandler tipped, The West Australian reported.

The man was working from the cage of the Manitou telehandler when it tipped just after 4pm.

Super Pit operations were brought to a halt while the man was freed.

He was taken to Kalgoorlie Regional Hospital with foot injuries.

Debate on gender targets insulting

The Australian Financial Review reports that the debate within political parties about the merits of setting gender diversity targets is "an insult to all of the women in Australia", retired Army chief Lieutenant General David Morrison said on Friday

The nation is an "enormous distance" from successfully achieving diversity in politics and business, and people in leadership positions needed to publicly set ambitious targets to rectify the divide, Morrison told a Women in Mining and Resources event.

"If you don't set a target what have you got to aim at?" he asked the sold out event of 550 people.

Palmer's QNI back in black

Some of mining magnate Clive Palmer’s key business operations have returned to black after previously posting multimillion dollar losses, according to the Courier Mail.

Despite a 35% fall in nickel prices in the year to June 30, financial statements released late last week show Palmer’s Townsville-based QNI Resources and QNI Metals posted a combined $A453 million profit during the fiscal 2015 year.

It is a massive turn around for the companies, linked to Palmer’s nickel refinery, which reported a combined $55 million loss last year and $169 million loss prior to that.
