Utilizing breakthrough developments in ceramic injection moulding and ceramic-metal coatings, Veridyne’s new tubular-design Solid Oxide Fuel Cell produces electricity through an electro-chemical process using syn-gas from coal, rather than a combustion process.

These facilities will now be able to produce the same power generation but now using 50% less fuel and zero Nitrous Oxide and Sulfur Dioxide emissions.

In addition they will now meet or exceed CO2 reduction requirements defined in the Clean Air Act with cost of conversion being paid for out fuel savings.

“Rather than shuttering hundreds of existing coal-fired generating stations slated for closure, resulting in potential rolling brown-outs to grid customers, Veridyne’s new Solid Oxide Fuel Cells will allow these plants to keep supplying the grid with clean electricity,” Veridyne CEO Peter Hogendoorn said. “And, many will be able to do so for the same cost, or less, than decommissioning.”

“We have developed a critical new technology that exceeds today’s high environmental standards, while continuing to leverage existing coal infrastructure,” Hogendoorn said.

“Our fuel cells can also run on natural gas, syn-gas from mixed waste, methane or propane, giving electricity producers great flexibility. And, with a capital costs comparable to existing coal-fired technology, our fuel cells are clearly an economic choice for the hundreds of
