Call for ETS by Federal opposition

Labor's environment spokesman Mark Butler says the Turnbull government's direct action policy could be converted to an emissions trading system but the government lacks the will and its policy settings will do nothing to limit greenhouse gas emissions, according to the Australian Financial Review.

“You could reconfigure it to be a baseline and credit emissions trading system (but) equally there's no will in the government to do it,” Butler said.

Rhinehart’s daughter on Rich List

Gina Rinehart's daughter Bianca will debut on the Rich List when it is published on Friday, according to the Australian Financial Review.

Bianca Rinehart joins mother Gina Rinehart on the list, having taken control of 23% of the huge Hancock Prospecting after a bitter legal dispute last year.

Germany's K+S Group to embark on Pilbara salt project

German potash and salt giant K+S Group has revealed plans to expand into Australia with a $350 million Pilbara salt project, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

The $6.5 billion company is the world's largest salt producer and one of the top global suppliers of potash for use in fertiliser.

K+S, which has projects in three continents, said Western Australia was a "perfect target" for its salt growth strategy because of the region's history of salt production and proximity to Asia.
