ICMSE 2011, scheduled for October 10-12 in Xi’an in the Shaanxi Province, follows up the inaugural gathering in 2008 and will focus on the advancement of cooperation between science and technology as well as promoting academic communications on safety and mine ventilation.

The event’s themes of discussion, for which paper submissions are being encouraged, include mine ventilation and safety; ventilation simulation and software application; coal spontaneous combustion and mine fire; coal mine methane control/utilization; mine emergency rescue techniques; heat hazard control; risk assessment; safety system engineering; and occupational health.

The organizers will accept 300-word abstracts in Word or PDF format by March 31 and those accepted for the conference will be notified by May 1. Full paper submissions are required by May 31 and acceptance notification will be made by June 30.

The working language for the event will be English.

“Mining safety and mine environment protection are the foundations of sustainable development of mining industry,” ICMSE coordinators said.

“Like in many countries, the mining industry in China has made great progress while the improvement of technology and management in mine safety and environment protection are urgently entailed. We sincerely invite relative researchers, technicians and scholars around the world to attend the conference and address [a] timely issue.”

The October gathering is being sponsored by the Xi’an University of Science and Technology in China, with co-sponsorships by the Missouri University of Science and Technology and the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
