Running for two days, starting September 5, organisers intend to host the conference every two years and expand it to include ventilation issues for underground metalliferous mines in 2013.

Organisers have observed that the technical transfer of ventilation knowledge in Australia has been severely limited in recent years.

Abstracts and author information submissions of 300 words or less are due no later than May 10.

The first conference will cover the following topic areas:

• ventilation planning (case studies)
• prevention of methane and coal dust explosions
• main and booster fans
• numerical modelling and integration with planning and remote monitoring
• coal mine ventilation
• diesel emissions control and measurement
• occupational health (mine gases, dusts, etc)
• air cooling and refrigeration
• prevention and fighting of mine fires
• ventilation controls (stoppings, doors, remote controls, etc)
• ventilation monitoring and control(air flow, air quality, etc)
• mining regulations

This conference is also planned to complement the North American Mine Ventilation Symposium, and organisers aim to receive overseas contributions for the proposed 2013 event.
