The stalemate continues between the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union and other unions against BMA with fear that changing of statutory roles would compromise safety.

The suspension of Blackwater's operations continued until midnight Thursday, a spokesperson for the Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation told ILN.

“The Queensland government's Mines Inspectorate is investigating a dump truck incident at the BHP Mitsubishi Alliance Blackwater coal mine, east of Emerald,” the spokesperson said.

“The incident, which occurred about 10.30am on Wednesday February 29, involved a dump truck reversing through a safety barrier at a dumping point. No one was injured.

“Operations at the mine have been suspended because the mine’s management has failed to demonstrate that its safety and health management systems are effective.

“And operations will remain suspended until the issuing inspector is satisfied that the system deficiencies are adequately addressed to ensure the safety and health of mine workers.”

A spokesperson for BHP Billiton has confirmed to ILN that mining operations have now recommenced.
