Coal 2013 would include sessions on surface and open cut mining, and address issues including longwall and equipment and machinery innovation, conference chairman associate professor Naj Aziz told ILN.

“We strongly encourage papers from coal mine operations, as well as applied and fundamental coal mining research,” he said.

Papers are invited on the subject of roadway development, mine ventilation, mine gas drainage and outburst control as well as mine fires and explosions.

Underground mining methods including longwall, bord and pillar, top coal caving and hydraulic mining will be examined at the event.

Ground control and strata management, including instrumentation and monitoring and rock bolting, cable bolting and other roof support techniques, will also be topics for discussion during Coal 2013.

The conference will take place on February 14 and 15 at the University of Wollongong in New South Wales. For more information, visit www.coalconference.net.
