The workers, whose names have not been released, were working the morning shift at Five Star Mining’s Prosperity operation when the accident took place on Tuesday.
A US Mine Safety and Health Administration spokesperson told ILN the accident involved a battery hauler and battery scoop.
“The accident occurred when the battery coal hauler struck the battery scoop,” the spokesperson said.
“The battery scoop, which was presumably parked, inadvertently moved and pinched/struck the two miners between the battery scoop and the coal rib.”
One of the miners escaped with an ankle injury, while the other had injuries to the collarbone, shoulder and chest area.
An ILN request for a condition update on the pair was not returned by press time.
Emergency officials told local media outlet WFIE on Tuesday afternoon that ambulances as well as an air-evac unit were dispatched after the accident.
According to federal data, the Prosperity operation near Princeton and its operator Five Star Mining are controlled by Donald Blankenberger. The mine produced 2.45 million tons of bituminous coal in 2011 and had a non-fatal days lost (NFDL) incidence rate of 3.5.
