New South Wales operations

Three new 10SC32 BC shuttle cars are due to be delivered in early to Glennies Creek to go into development headings (see related story). The shuttle cars are due to arrive at Joy’s Moss Vale facility to be function tested and checked before being delivered to the mine.

Ken McCallum has been appointed to the newly created role of product manager – shearers. McCallum joins Joy from the UK at the end of May, and will be responsible for all shearer related equipment issues in Australia, based at Parkhurst.

Moss Vale have just completed the overhaul of the Spingvale shearer, AFC, BSL and crusher.

An ex-Southland 12CM30 machine is currently being reassembled in the Cardiff workshop and is due to be sent to Powercoal’s Newstan mine on a long lease.

Queensland operations

In Queensland, a second AFC destined for the Kestrel mine is due to arrive at Parkhurst at the end of May for a four week compatibility testing prior to being delivered to the mine site. The equipment is of a very similar specification as the first AFC that was supplied to Kestrel last December and includes a 42mm Parsons chain.

The Parkhurst workshop is currently conducting refurbishment work on Moranbah North’s LW 102’s equipment. This work will be carried out in conjunction with the supply of a new third AFC drive, high impact crusher and a second BSL mounted dust extraction unit.

Joy said Oaky Creek’s Joy 4LS shearer had been performing consistently well, returning availability figures for some weeks of 100% and breaking the shift record for shears in a single shift.

Tenders are expected to be called for from Crinum and Kestrel for roof support control systems. Capcoal has released a tender for a new AFC at Central.
