Registrations closing for mining engineers’ course

REGISTRATIONS for an electrical drives short course, designed specifically for practising mining ...

Angie Tomlinson

The one-day course, Variable Speed Electrical Drives – Current Practice and Future Trends, will be held in Noosa, Queensland on Wednesday 16 June.

The course has been prepared and will be presented by the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Newcastle, a CRCMining partner.

It will give a broad understanding of modern variable speed electrical drives, in particular medium voltage drives used in the mining industry.

The course will also provide participants with the necessary knowledge to make informed decisions about future plant investment without the fine detail more appropriate to specialist drives engineers.

Topics will be presented through a series of seminars and discussion groups and will include: general introduction to drives (AC vs DC motors and drives); AC drives – structures, control methods, choice of drives; practical drive issues; and future trends.
