The Pittsburgh-based company said the new monitor weighed just 8.6 ounces (243g) and included a large custom LCD display for continuous real-time gas readings with amber backlight to provide clear display visibility in underground conditions.

International graphic symbols and a four-button interface provide intuitive instrument setup, operation and calibration, while the M40•M’s five second “Off” feature prevents unintentional shut-offs.

The MSHA-approved M40•M is housed in a casing to provide durability in harsh environments.

The monitor bears an ingress protection rating of IP65 and is resistant to radio-frequency and electromagnetic interference.
