The Virginia-based company produced more than 11 million tons for the 2005 first quarter and shipments were approximately 10.5Mt.

January shipments were curtailed due to flooding of the Ohio River system and railroad car shortages, but shipments were stronger during the latter part of the quarter.

"The coal marketplace continues to be strong and business concluded during the first quarter for 2006 and 2007 was at prices that met or exceeded our prior price projections," Massy chief Don Blankenship said.
