Boyle stopped the Moranbah development late last month despite the Belyando Shire Council approving plans to turn 63 hectares of rural land into 350 residential lots in July. The land lies over coal resources and a Mineral Development Licence has been issued to explore the deposits.

Doyle said if the council had done its job properly in the first place the call-in might not have been necessary.

"Belyando Shire mayor Peter Freeleagus should be working with us to address the long-term planning issues for Moranbah. Instead he's been stirring up community concern over the call-in and may have caused unnecessary alarm,” she said.

"The council is required by law to consider all relevant matters when assessing a development application. Clearly, an existing mineral development licence is relevant and should have been addressed in the council's assessment of the application."

Boyle will visit Moranbah on Tuesday 27 September to meet with the Belyando Shire Council and discuss the call-in and future planning for the town.
