The Queensland coal producer posted raw coal production of 1.78 million tonnes for the three months to July 31, at similar levels to the corresponding 2005 quarter.

With the Jeebropilly opencut operation - located immediately west of Ipswich in the Amberley area of the Moreton Basin - set to close, New Hope said increased production from the completion of the Acland Stage 2 development will more than offset lost production at Jeebropilly.

The New Acland opencut mine is located 150km west of Brisbane in the Darling Downs region of South East Queensland.

The mine expansion will increase production from 4 million tonnes per annum ROM coal to 7.5Mtpa ROM coal.

The company also said construction of the additional wash plant module at Acland had commenced.
