“Weather permitting, an attempt will be made to refloat the Pasha Bulker with the high tide on Wednesday evening,” Tripodi said.

Hydrographic surveys of the seabed around the vessel were completed yesterday afternoon and the salvage team has now received the data required to finalise preparations for the attempted refloat.

There will be increased activity today as the tugs being used in the salvage operation are attached to the coal carrier for an attempted refloat.

Newcastle Port Corporation CEO Gary Webb said the vessel continues to stand up well to both weather and tidal conditions and the planning process is progressing well.

“While it is understood the public is very interested in witnessing the attempted refloat we are mindful of the need to place safety first,” Webb said.

“We are working with NSW Police on a pedestrian and traffic management plan and Newcastle Police will provide further information regarding the vehicle exclusion zone in the next 24 hours.”

Air and waterside exclusion zones are also in place until further notice.
