In April 2007 Whitehaven issued a prospectus that showed forward sales contracts amounting to a total of 7.1 million tonnes of export thermal coal at fixed prices over the five-year period.

This figure comprised 5.5Mt from Whitehaven's mines and 1.6Mt from the Werris Creek Joint Venture, in which Whitehaven held 40%.

Since the release of the prospectus Whitehaven purchased the remaining 60% of shares in the Werris Creek JV.

As a result of this acquisition, along with significant increases in thermal coal prices, Whitehaven Coal currently has 8.3Mt of thermal coal sales contracts at fixed sales.
