The conference, themed “Future Focus: Developing tomorrow’s workforce today”, will be held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre on September 25-26.

MISC chief executive Derek Hunter said delegates will have their perceptions on skilling in the mining industry challenged and encouraged anyone with an interest in the future of the resources sector to attend.

“For example, Michael Myers will be delivering a thought-provoking address focusing on the motivational drivers in children’s career decision processes,” Hunter said.

“In times of continued skills shortage when businesses are required to attract the best and brightest from a young age, Mr Myers’ presentation will explain the fundamental principles of attracting children and young adults to a career in the resources industry.”

Myers, the managing director of Concentric Asia Pacific, will be presenting “The Playground is the New Business Battleground”.

Keynote speaker at the conference is Xstrata Copper North Queensland chief operating officer Steve de Kruijff who will look at the future impact that automation technology will have on workforce planning in the resources sector.

Other speakers at the conference will include human resources expert Avril Henry, futurist and strategist Peter Ellyard, explosive expert Darren Flanagan and comedian Ahn Doh.

The conference coincides with the centre’s annual Training Awards where trainers, trainees and companies are recognised.
