Johnson will join Gloucester in November this year, bringing his strategy, business development and joint venture management skills to the coal miner.
He joins the company from his most recent role as BHP’s senior manager of strategy and business development, based out of Singapore.
Gloucester chief executive Rob Lord said Kirby’s experience and skills would be important for the company’s future growth.
The miner boosted its coking coal sales by 6% during the 2008 financial year and posted a net profit after tax of $A23.4 million for the year.
