Operated by Mechel subsidiary Yakutugol HC OAO, the Elga deposit holds coking coal reserves of 2.2 billion tonnes.

To date Yakutugol has repaired 80km of access motor road and constructed 143km of motor roadbed and 37km of pioneer road.

Repair of 59km of the railroad has been completed and 54 railroad bridges erected.

To make this railroad section completely ready, ballasting and surfacing of rails need to be completed but due to severe climate conditions and low temperatures, Yakutugol will not complete the works until spring.

More than 1000 units of road building machinery are currently being used to complete the works.
