Coal India subsidiary Southern Eastern Coalfields Limited has recently taken delivery of Camgas, with the third installation of the system in India carried out by Simtars mine gas monitoring specialist Darren Brady.

Simtars said other Coal India mines had expressed interest in Camgas and an installation at another operation was planned for mid-year.

“The SECL team expressed their pride in being the first Coal India Camgas system operators and looked forward to setting the benchmark for mine gas analysis for Coal India’s 465 coal mines,” Simtars said.

Developed in 1989 by Simtars, Camgas has long been used by Australia’s longwall sector and is now in its fifth generation.

Camgas is also used in various underground coal operations in China, USA and New Zealand.
