The free one-day event is scheduled for September 15 at the Holiday Inn Charleston House and will feature workshop sessions from 8.30am to 4pm.

Researchers from the agency as well as the US Mine Safety and Health Administration will present information on the latest technologies in proximity warning systems, both those commercially available now and experimental devices.

The discussion will include technologies suitable for all mining types, but a special spotlight will be given to underground applications.

In addition to the technology update and MSHA’s status report on recent proximity detection activities, the West Virginia Mine Safety Technology Task Force will provide attendees with a report on its implementation efforts for the systems.

Guests can register to attend before September 10 by contacting Berni Sobeck at 412-386-4541, MSobeck@cdc.gov. A webcast will also be available, but is limited to the first 80 respondents.
