QCoal has a number of operations in the Bowen Basin and was recently granted mining leases for the Byerwen Coal Project, located 20km west of Glenden.

Kane said the company had a strong commitment to maximise local, regional and indigenous opportunities on the project.

Construction began last month on the Byerwen mine, which QCoal owns in joint venture with JFE Steel.

The Byerwen mine project will generate 350 construction jobs at peak, followed by up to 545 ongoing jobs once the coking and thermal mine is fully operational.

The company previously committed to hiring from Glenden, Nebo, Moranbah and Collinsville and across the wider region.

The Byerwen mine is forecast to yield up to 10 million tonnes of high-quality coking coal and thermal coal annually. Coal will be railed to Abbot Point Coal Terminal for export.
