The Wangan & Jagalingou Traditional Owners had been fighting to continue an injunction they had issued last year that prevented the Indigenous Land Use Agreement Adani had over its Carmichael project coming into effect.

The W&J Traditional Owners have a hearing set down for March 12-15 at which they intend to challenge Adani’s ILUA.

However, the Federal Court refused the W&J injunction application and the group’s subsequent appeal was also dismissed last week.

This means the W&J’s Native Title over the Carmichael ground may be extinguished, which makes the March hearing somewhat moot.

With the appeal dismissed Adani has started working on the project,.

On the Carmichael rail project detailed design activities are continuing; Aecom is finalising field data in preparation for reporting and rehabilitation of the completed sites; and environmental input is continuing to focus on supporting enabling works in the camps area.

According to an Adani spokeswoman negotiations are ongoing with contractors and over major supply packages, civils and earthworks, track work and signalling and communication packages.

The Adani Community Engagement Team visited Collinsville in December and January to talk about Rail Camp 3.

On the Carmichael mine project cultural heritage clearances continue, as do environmental studies and surveying. Detailed design for the accommodation village is also being carried out.

The spokeswoman said Adani was about to start detailed design for the airport, communication tower and coal handling and processing plant.

She said it was also starting to drill test bores and install additional monitoring bores.

“We will shortly be starting tenders for subcontractors for a range of activities including earthworks,” the spokeswoman said.
