DEMAND growth in Asia, together with the decline in the energy content of Indonesian and Australian export thermal coals, is resulting in a substantial shift of supply ex-Colombia and the US from their traditional Atlantic markets to the Asian market, according to Glencore.

US supply to Asian markets in the first half of 2018 was up 93% year on year, with Colombia up 13%, according to Glencore, which is one of the world's major suppliers of thermal coal.
