THERE was evidence that South 32’s underground coal mining operations in New South Wales had already caused damage in the region which had led to loss of surface water, according to the Lock the Gate Alliance spokesman Nic Clyde.

Late last year, it was revealed six billion litres of water had been diverted from creeks feeding Sydney water catchments into underground coal mines in the Special Areas, Clyde said.
