AUSTRALIAN coal production and exports are expected to grow fairly slowly, driven by productivity improvements, the restart of some existing mines and completion of investment projects over the next few years, according to the Reserve Bank of Australia.

Exports of coal may moderate over the next 15 years, according to the Reserve Bank of Australia.

However, coal mining companies generally maintain a cautious approach to any expansionary investment, it said in its Changing Global Market for Australian Coal report.
