RELATIONS between management and mining union members at South32’s Illawarra Metallurgical coal operations in New South Wales have turned frostier after the company pulled out of a meeting to address its proposed job and pay cuts for hundreds of labour hire workers at its Appin mine.

South32's Illawarra Metallurgical Coal division recently made changes to contractor arrangements at Appin.
