Japanese ambassador slams Qld for royalty hike without consultation

JAPANESE ambassador to Australia Shingo Yamagami has once again strongly criticised the Queensland government’s July decision to raise coal royalty rates without properly consulting long-term Japanese investors such as the Mitsubishi group.

 Yamagami said Japanese companies wanted certainty from the Queensland government especially when investing long-term for energy and resources.

Yamagami told the Minerals Council of Australia Minerals Week 2022 conference that Queensland's decision to hike coal royalties from 15% to 40% was a "bolt from the blue" that sent "shockwaves to Tokyo"....
