AN OLD mine void at the Premier coal mine near Collie in Western Australia’s south has been reconnected to the Collie River and transformed into a 32 gigalitre lake that will serve as a community recreation hub for water sports.

The lake has a 5.4km perimeter and is 65m deep and holds nearly as much water as Canberra's Lake Burley Griffin.
