WESTERN Australia’s government has lost patience with the last few Wittenoom residents refusing to sell their homes, with legislation to be introduced to Parliament on Wednesday to compulsorily acquire the final five homes and force the reluctant residents out of town.

The picturesque but toxic former asbestos mining town of Wittenoom was built in 1947 to support the Colonial Sugar Refinery's asbestos operations at the nearby Wittenoom and Colonial Gorges.
