Alcoa to finally fill old Anglesea void

A $150 million project to transform Alcoa Australia’s coal mine and power station near the Victorian coastal town of Anglesea into an immersive educational centre could generate 1300 new jobs and $350 million in the first 10 years of operation, according to proponents.

Alcoa has released a rehabilitation and closure plan for the mine and a new concept master plan for the power station site.

The Anglesea coal mine and coal-fired power station supplied about 40% of the power needs for the Point Henry smelter during its 46 years of operation, before being shut down in August 2015.
