SOUTHERN Cross Electrical Engineering will shut down the power at Rio Tinto’s ageing refinery on the Gove Peninsula in the Northern Territory and reroute hydraulic services under a $18 million contract.

Rio Tinto called time on the 49-year-old alumina refinery in 2014, however, the bauxite mine is still operational, with ore being shipped to Gladstone in Queensland for refining.
