NEW South Wales coal miners are being urged to act immediately to get ready for the respirable dust standard of 1.5 milligrams per cubic metre that will come into effect on February 1.

Dust suppression is becoming increasingly important for NSW coal miners.

The 1.5mg/cu.m standard is down markedly from the existing standard of 2.5mg/cu.m.

It comes into effect in NSW two years earlier than in other Australian states and territories.
