Ganfeng goes to Germany

LITHIUM and cobalt from Australia will be used by German car giant BMW in fifth-generation battery cells for high-voltage batteries under a contract signed between BMW and Chinese lithium miner Ganfeng late last year.

BMW's fifth generation electric powertrain technology

The five-year contract is worth about $873 million.

According to BMW's Dr Andreas Wendt, the signing secures BMW all the lithium hydroxide it needs for the battery cells.
