A WORKER doing maintenance at a Victorian quarry has sparked a blaze on a hopper line and screen, prompting the state’s safety watchdog to issue a warning about having proper controls in place for hot works.

Worksafe warns quarry operators to have proper controls in place when carrying out hot works.

The worker, who had been using an oxy-acetylene torch to cut bolts, was unable to contain the blaze and emergency services had to be called to extinguish the fire.
