Federal government may intervene to stop Whyalla failing

THE federal and South Australian governments are monitoring the solvency of Whyalla steelworks parent company GFG group as Credit Suisse seeks to wind up several GFG businesses in the New South Wales Supreme Court next month, according to finance minister Simon Birmingham.

However, Birmingham made no mention of the mines that supply the steelworks, including the Tahmoor colliery in NSW and iron ore mines located in SA's Middleback Ranges, when interviewed on ABC radio station...
