Bright sparks for mine safety

THE electrical division of central Queensland’s mine safety team has been strengthened with the addition of two new Inspectors of Mines.

Angie Tomlinson

Peter Herbert and Michael Fitzgerald joined the department of Natural Resources Mines and Energy to support and monitor safety and health activities associated with the growing coal industry in Central Queensland.

Herbert will be based in Mackay and Fitzgerald in Rockhampton. The pair specialise in electrical safety in mining and they both have vast experience in the industry across the region.

In Queensland well over 2000 inspections/audits were carried out in the year 2002/03, with mines in the medium/high risk category, being inspected on a number of occasions.
