Officials punished over miner deaths

THE death of eleven workers in a coal mine gas explosion in Henan last month has prompted the Chinese government to punish 21 officials.

The explosion occurred at the Qiaoyan Coal Mine on January 21 when 24 miners were working underground. Eleven were found dead and nine were injured.

 

Local reports did not specify what sort of punishment the officials would be handed.

 

Xinhua News Agency reported the mine owner was still being pursued by police.
