New president for Queensland Mining Council

CHIEF executive of Ensham Resources, Ken Foots, has been elected president of the Queensland Mining Council.

Staff Reporter

The appointment follows the resignation of Dr Chris Rawlings of QCT Resources, taken over last year by BHP Coal and Mitsubishi.

Foots, one of the most experienced company coal executives in the industry, will serve a one-year term and heads a newly elected executive committee. Elected vice presidents are Rick Gazzard, president BHP Coal, and Mike Menzies, executive general manager mining MIM.

Foots said the industry faced a testing year ahead. Exploration remained the major problems for the industry given the absence of new permits being issued by government following delays through the native title process.
