Southland workers win $2.5 million payout

SOUTHLAND Colliery workers were informed on February 1 that Colrok would pay $2.5 million in entitlements.

Staff Reporter

The 130 miners met with the Construction, Forestry, Mining & Energy Union (CFMEU) to make the announcement.

The CFMEU said German unions had helped apply pressure to Thyssen Schachtbau, the German owners of Colrok, to obtain the payments. Entitlements will not be released until after a creditors' meeting on February 21, 2001.
