Coal adds to Australia�s export charge

HIGHER export volumes for more than half of Australia’s mineral and energy commodities increased export earnings by 4% to $16.2 billion in the 2004 December quarter.

Coking coal was a major contributor, increasing earnings by $97 million to $2.27 billion for the quarter, according to the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ABARE).

 

Other commodities recording significant increases in export earnings included gold, diamonds, manganese ore, zinc, refined petroleum products, nickel and alumina.

 

ABARE previously forecast export earnings from coal would increase 48% to 16.1 billion in 2004/05.
