O'Donnell Griffin's $17.4 million contract with John Holland involves 5km of offshore conveyors, a new substation within the bay and a 400m extension on the existing berth.
The $5.4 million agreement with Walz Construction includes the installation of transfer towers and an onshore conveyor system that will deliver coal to the offshore system.
Project manager Steve Jago said the installation would be demanding, as some areas would require cables to run 30–40m above the water.
O'Donnell Griffin is currently completing another contract at the site, $13.5 million of work for Babcock & Brown Industries that involved a complete high-voltage upgrade of the site in just over 12 months.
Jago said work on the current contract has so far been completed within time and budget targets, while keeping the coal terminal running at near-full capacity during the upgrade.
The new contracts are in planning and procurement stages with construction set to begin shortly.
