According to the Associated Press,/i>, the settlements were reached last week ahead of a Logan County Circuit Court hearing scheduled for this week.
Settlement terms were not made public.
Massey spokesperson Jeff Gillenwater confirmed the deal to ILN Tuesday morning.
“The settlements were worked out by and funded by our insurance carriers,” he said, declining further comment.
Two workers, Ellery Hatfield and Don Bragg, died in the Aracoma Alma conveyor belt fire on January 19, 2006.
Suits filed by the families of both workers were settled with the company under undisclosed terms.
The nine involved in the suit had alleged that the smoke from the fire had caused long-term health issues.
Massey's Aracoma Coal paid fines of $US2.5 million and civil penalties of $1.7 million in 2009 after pleading guilty to 10 mine safety violations.
