“We are pleased to announce Matrix Design Group as the first distributor of our emergency mine communication system,” said Kutta president Matthew Savoca on Friday.
“We will continue to focus on developing reliable, survivable communication systems that are interoperable with other communication systems in the mine, and one that is truly affordable to mine operators. Matrix will focus on distribution and installation of the system.”
Matrix president Aric Pryor said that the decision was a milestone for both. “Matrix is proud to offer the best underground tracking system available today and, together with Kutta’s DRUM radios, can provide an important part of a mine’s post-accident safety systems.”
The two companies also announced they would be developing an interface for data transfer of Matrix’s Miner and Equipment Tracking System (METS) on Kutta’s digital radio network.
Successful radio tests have taken place at Alliance Coal operations in Western Kentucky. Kutta said its analog DRUM system would be available during the final quarter of this year, and the digital version would be released the first quarter of 2009.
Both companies will be on hand to talk about the announcement and their product lines at MINExpo 2008, being held this week in Las Vegas, Nevada.
